Change is hard for anyone. Mix in a depression or anxiety disorder, and change is very hard. But keeping a few helpful tips in mind can ease difficult transitions:
1. Change is hard for everyone. It's not just you. You're in good company.
2. Change can be good. Although difficult, it can pave the way for great things ahead. Taking a positive spin can do wonders for your thoughts and attitude.
3. Talk about it. Find a therapist, friend, or family member to talk through how you're feeling. Often, when we have someone to talk things over with, it doesn't seem as overwhelming.
4. Remind yourself about how you successfully dealt with change before. It will give you a reminder that you can do it successfully again.
5. Try not to worry too much about what will happen. No one can predict the future - we often worry about scenarios we created in our own heads, without knowing if it will or will not happen. Worrying about "What ifs" is futile and a waste of emotional energy.
6. Give yourself a break - don't get upset with yourself for feeling anxious or upset about the change in your life. Know that your reaction is normal, and try to deal positively with it.
7. Stay within a routine. Although you're going through a change - keep some things steady and predictable. This will make you feel stable and in control.
